Vienna details

Now that I've rested and relaxed as much as I can for a couple days in Prague, I'm ready for another trip back on the road and rails. Next up: Vienna.

I've gone northeast-ish from London to Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne, and up to Copenhagen, then south to Berlin and Prague, and now I'm headed west for a while through Austria, Munich and Bavaria.

Tuesday 10/11 (Day 25) – Vienna
  • 0622 arrive from Prague
  • 0700-0900 RS city walk (incl Dorotheum, Judenplatz)
  • 0900-1100 Hofburg apartments
  • 1100-1300 Red Bus city tour, incl 20 min stop for lunch/shopping
  • 1300-1500 St Stephens Cathedral
  • 1500-1600 organ concert at St Peter’s
  • 1630-1800 Kunsthistorisches Musem (if I feel like it)
Wed 10/12 (Day 26) – Vienna
  • 1000-1200 Spanish riding school (Lipizzaner stallions)
  • 1200-1300 lunch at Buffet Trzesniewski
  • 1300-1500 Hofburg Treasur
  • 1500-1700 Hofburg New Palace
  • TBD Opera/tour
Thurs 10/13 (Day 27) -  Danube Valley
  • 0740 train leaves for St Poelten

In the afternoon and evening I'm planning to partake of the coffee houses (not like the ones in Amsterdam) and wine gardens. Tuesday is a little busy because I get in so early, but I tried to make up for it with a lighter Wednesday.

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, I'm planning to stay out in the countryside, a first for this trip. Tentatively planned are the Danube Valley (in particular, Krems and Melk) on Thursday, then the Salzkammergut on Friday (Bad Ischl) and Saturday (Hallstatt). Rick Steves loves Hallstatt so I'll probably just take his tour advice there, and I'll read up on Krems, Melk (and maybe Durnstein), and Bad Ischl. After that, I leave for Salzburg on Sunday 10/16 (Day 30), arriving around 11:50am.
